I think this applies to some of the children in our area. Many have great home/preschool langauge opportunities.

This year my teacher inquiry is focussed on oral language. I see speaking and listening skills as vital for all 21st Century Learners. I hope to enhance the skills of my students by using a variety of ICT tools. I also want them involved in their own assessment and goal setting.

This highlights the difference between speech and language. It also covers Blank's levels of questioning. I am working on questioning in Room 3 at the moment. We have a long way to go. Many of the wee people are still learning the difference between a comment and a question.

I agree that students need time for practise and need specific instruction. Finding time in the crowded curriculum is mission difficult. Maybe I can use Inquiry Learning Time as a way of increasing oral language learning?
